Dear First Grade Families,
Thank you to all who came to sing in Sunday! The children did a lovely job.
This Week's Learning:
On Monday we took the first half of our
Unit 3 Reading Assessment. It's a long one so we are breaking it up. In Unite 4 we will be reading a Folktale and a piece about real animals and their features. We will use a graphic organizer to put the events of the story in order, which helps us to understand the plot.
Homework Packets this week contain spelling practice as well as a couple additional math practice pages that go with our current skills.
For Social Studies we are talking about Veterans and how they are Heroes. We also colored American Flags. We have been exploring maps and the map of the United States. Students are learning that "America" is a less accurate name for "The United States of America", as America also names other parts of our continent, such as South America, Central America, and North America.
Students explored directionals on the map (North, East, South, and West). We are beginning to read about conservation and recycling.
Math: We continue to work on doubles and doubles plus 1 to add.
In Science we have been gathering data about a variety of topics, such as favorite pets, favorite colors, favorite desserts, etc. We then place the data on a bar graph.
Christmas
We will soon begin learning the songs for our Christmas Eve worship services. As predicted, we will set aside the remainder of the 10 commandments until Christmas has passed, to allow plenty of time to learn our songs.
